Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Retreat in the Summer Mountains by Wang Shimin was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in May 2011, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 150,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 500,000.00 (€ 44,727.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wang Shimin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reading in the Autumn Mountain in May 2012 with an auction result of HKD 10,180,000.00 (€ 1,060,485.28).
