In March 2018 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Interior With Fireplace by Walter Gay. The »bidding war« ended at USD 9,375.00 (€ 7,609.58), 34% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Walter Gay have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Salon des Aigles, Hotel Crillon, Paris in April 2002 with an auction result of USD 45,410.00 (€ 50,444.35).

Im März 2018 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Interior With Fireplace von Walter Gay zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 9.375,00 (€ 7.609,58) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Walter Gay auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Salon des Aigles, Hotel Crillon, Paris im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 45.410,00 (€ 50.444,35).
