Walter Gay noted that the present work depicts, "[a] room in the Château du Bréau, Seine-et-Marne, France, the property of the artist. The bed and walls are covered with blue and white toile de Jouy. The price achieved of USD 10,625.00 (€ 8,930.07) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Walter Gay have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Salon des Aigles, Hotel Crillon, Paris in April 2002 with an auction result of USD 45,410.00 (€ 50,444.35).
