Walter Gay noted that the present work depicts, "[a] room in the Château du Bréau, Seine-et-Marne, France, the property of the artist. The bed and walls are covered with blue and white toile de Jouy. Auction result well in line with expectations

The price achieved of USD 10,625.00 (€ 8,930.07) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Walter Gay have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Salon des Aigles, Hotel Crillon, Paris in April 2002 with an auction result of USD 45,410.00 (€ 50,444.35).
