Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Nativity In An Ancient Ruin by Viviano Codazzi was sold in the Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2015. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 31,250.00 (€ 27,679.36) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Viviano Codazzi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Ruderi di un edificio di ordine tuscanico, con un paesaggio mediterraneo sullo sfondo ed il tempio di Vesta, con astanti vari, which sold at auction in December 2002 for EUR 99,200.00.
