Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work At Lachen Monastery, Sikkim, Himalayas, c. 1899 by Vittorio Sella was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,875.00 (€ 1,421.96). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vittorio Sella - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shkhara ridge, Georgia, c. 1890, which sold at auction in December 2012 for USD 5,000.00 (€ 3,791.90).
