Sotheby’s 1988 sale featured eight large-scale works by Vadim Zakharov (fig.1), an artist who more recently was the recipient of Russia’s most prestigious contemporary art award, the Kandinsky Prize, and represented Russia at the 2013 Venice Biennale. It achieved a price of USD 32,500.00 (€ 28,679.84), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 63%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vadim Zakharov - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Baroque, which sold at auction in October 2008 for GBP 61,250.00 (€ 78,071.77).

Die Arbeit Sculpture No.7 From The 'Mythologies' Series von Vadim Zakharov wurde im Oktober 2018 in der Auktion Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 32.500,00 (€ 28.679,84) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 63%. Für andere Arbeiten von Vadim Zakharov mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Baroque beobachtet, die im Oktober 2008 für GBP 61.250,00 (€ 78.071,77) versteigert wurde.
