This artwork by Václav Špála achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in November 2014. In the Czech Avant-Garde Art from the Roy and Mary Cullen Collection auction, the work Czech Independence Girl With Laurel (Nezávislost S Ratolestí) sold for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,400.47) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Václav Špála achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Czech thunderstorm By The River Otava (Bouře U Otavy) in June 2011 with an auction result of GBP 187,250.00 (€ 207,157.32).
