Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In March 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese Art Including Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which included the work Unknown by Utagawa Toyokuni II. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,200.00 (€ 3,459.92), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Toyokuni II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ichikawa Danjuro in a pleasure quarter scene in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 21,420.00 (€ 25,549.57).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im März 2006 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Japanese Art Including Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Unknown von Utagawa Toyokuni II zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 4.200,00 (€ 3.459,92) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Toyokuni II auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Ichikawa Danjuro in a pleasure quarter scene im Dezember 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 21.420,00 (€ 25.549,57).
