Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Utagawa Toyokuni II could be acquired at Bonhams in New York in March last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1833-1834 changed hands for USD 637.50 (€ 574.69) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Toyokuni II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ichikawa Danjuro in a pleasure quarter scene in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 21,420.00 (€ 25,549.57).
