This artwork by Utagawa Toyokuni II achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2006. In the Japanese Art Including Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art auction, the work Bando Minosuke As Genkuro Yoshitsune sold for USD 5,400.00 (€ 4,448.47) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Toyokuni II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ichikawa Danjuro in a pleasure quarter scene in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 21,420.00 (€ 25,549.57).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 80 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Utagawa Toyokuni II erzielte im März 2006 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Japanese Art Including Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art wurde die Arbeit Bando Minosuke As Genkuro Yoshitsune für USD 5.400,00 (€ 4.448,47) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 3.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Toyokuni II auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Ichikawa Danjuro in a pleasure quarter scene im Dezember 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 21.420,00 (€ 25.549,57).
