Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Nanajuhachi-o Ichiyosai Toyokuni Shozo The Portrait of Ichiyosai Toyokuni (Kunisada), An Old Man of Seventy-eight, from a series of six designs by Kunisada (with the exception of this one) entitled Tosei mitate sanjurokku kasen The Thirty-six Poetical by [Toyohara Kunichika was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 562.50 (€ 676.60) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Toyohara Kunichika achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Artisans, Beauties And Annual Events in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 56,250.00 (€ 47,900.88).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 500,00 – 800,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 562,50 (€ 676,60) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Toyohara Kunichika erzielen.
