This artwork by Toyohara Kunichika achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2013. In the The Japanese Aesthetic auction, the work An okubi-e bust portrait of the actor Bando Hikosaburo V in the role of the evil Nikki Danjo, signed Kunichika hitsu, published by Gusokuya Kahei, and three other okubi-e designs by Kunichika from different series sold for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,255.33) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Toyohara Kunichika achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Artisans, Beauties And Annual Events in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 56,250.00 (€ 47,900.88).
