Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2001 a collector was able to acquire the work Shushoku enkei (Autumn landscape) by Ryuzaburo Umehara for USD 110,500.00 (€ 130,691.90). This price was achieved in the auction JAPANESE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 120,000.00 – 160,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ryuzaburo Umehara - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Peony, which sold at auction in July 2020 for HKD 2,750,000.00 (€ 301,299.47).
