A top price for Tyeb Mehta - as previously expected
The work Durga Mahisasura Mardini by Tyeb Mehta was sold in the Boundless: India auction at Sothebys in Mumbai in November 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of INR 200,000,000.00 – 300,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of INR 204,875,000.00 (€ 2,587,399.54) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Durga Mahisasura Mardini is the most expensive artwork by Tyeb Mehta that we have observed at auctions so far.
