Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1824 by Totoya Hokkei was worth USD 8,287.50 (€ 7,470.93) to a buyer in March last year. This price was achieved in the auction Japanese and Korean Art at Bonhams in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 1,500.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Totoya Hokkei achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tiger Looking At The Moon in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 350,000.00 (€ 302,323.57).
