Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2012 a collector was able to acquire the work ‘Alpine Lake, Cerro Blanco Mountains, Col., Height Of The Peak Over 14,000 Feet. Lake 11,000 Feet Above Sea-Level’ by Timothy O'Sullivan for USD 3,438.00 (€ 2,653.19). This price was achieved in the auction Photographs at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Timothy O'Sullivan achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Ancient Ruins In The Cañon De Chelle, N.M.' in April 2011 with an auction result of USD 134,500.00 (€ 90,749.61).
