A top price for Thomas Hickey - as previously expected
In November 2019 Christies in London held the auction China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection, which included the work Portrait of George, 1st Earl Macartney, half length, wearing the Order of the Bath by Thomas Hickey. The price achieved of GBP 23,750.00 (€ 27,888.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of George, 1st Earl Macartney, half length, wearing the Order of the Bath is the most expensive artwork by Thomas Hickey that we have observed at auctions so far.
