In November 2010 Christies in London held the auction The Collection of the Late John Appleby: A Channel Island Treasure House, which included the work View of Appleby Castle, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, with elegant figures in the foreground by Thomas Hearne. The auction ended at the price of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,585.00), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00.
