Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Rev. William Shepard, in a black coat and frilled white cravat, holding a document, seated in a crimson chair; drapery background by Thomas Hargreaves was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2004. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 334.60 (€ 505.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Hargreaves have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Anne Earle, facing right in white dress, lace-bordered white surcoat, pale pink cashmere stole draped over her left shoulder, a lorgnette on a long gold chain pinned at waist, lace mob cap tied under her chin in her dark brown hair, her right elbow r in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 2,629.00 (€ 3,778.02
