Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2003 Christies in London held the auction OBJECTS OF VERTU AND PORTRAIT MINIATURES, which included the work A young gentleman believed to be Mr. Philips, nearly full face in a black coat, white waistcoat and shirt by Thomas Hargreaves. The price achieved of GBP 352.50 (€ 460.74) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Hargreaves have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Anne Earle, facing right in white dress, lace-bordered white surcoat, pale pink cashmere stole draped over her left shoulder, a lorgnette on a long gold chain pinned at waist, lace mob cap tied under her chin in her dark brown hair, her right elbow r in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 2,629.00 (€ 3,778.02
