Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Prince Ernest Augustus (1771-1851), later King of Hanover, three-quarter-length, in Windsor uniform by Thomas Gainsborough for GBP 87,500.00 (€ 104,490.54). This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Evening Sale at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gainsborough achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going To Market, Early Morning in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 7,961,000.00 (€ 8,740,648.70).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Juli letzten Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Portrait of Prince Ernest Augustus (1771-1851), later King of Hanover, three-quarter-length, in Windsor uniform von Thomas Gainsborough für GBP 87.500,00 (€ 104.490,54) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 100.000,00 – 150.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Gainsborough erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Going To Market, Early Morning im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.961.000,00 (€ 8.740.648,70).
