Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Thomas Gainsborough achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July last year. In the Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online auction, the work A wooded landscape with donkeys and figures on a path sold for GBP 163,800.00 (€ 195,606.29) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gainsborough achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going To Market, Early Morning in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 7,961,000.00 (€ 8,740,648.70).

Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen

Dieses Kunstwerk von Thomas Gainsborough erzielte im Juli letzten Jahres bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Master Paintings & Sculpture Online wurde die Arbeit A wooded landscape with donkeys and figures on a path für GBP 163.800,00 (€ 195.606,29) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 80.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Gainsborough erzielen.
