Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work The Battle Of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805: The Height Of The Action by Thomas Buttersworth. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 50,000.00 – 80,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 63,301.14) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Buttersworth - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Captain Lord Cochrane'S Frigate Pallas Leaving The Tagus Under Full Sail, The City of Lisbon Beyond And The Belem Tower Receding Astern, which sold at auction in June 2006 for GBP 102,000.00 (€ 147,592.30).
