Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Departure of a Detachment of the British Fleet from the Tagus in pursuit of the Spanish Fleet on the 8th of February 1798 by Thomas Buttersworth was auctioned at Bonhams in London in April last year. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,912.50 (€ 2,280.59) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Buttersworth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Captain Lord Cochrane'S Frigate Pallas Leaving The Tagus Under Full Sail, The City of Lisbon Beyond And The Belem Tower Receding Astern in June 2006 with an auction result of GBP 102,000.00 (€ 147,592.30).

Die Arbeit Departure of a Detachment of the British Fleet from the Tagus in pursuit of the Spanish Fleet on the 8th of February 1798 von Thomas Buttersworth kam im April letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 1.912,50 (€ 2.280,59) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Buttersworth erzielen.
