Zigong Series: Brine Wells
Already during the Ming Dynasty, the areas of Ziliujing and Gongjing in Sichuan were producing salt. Several workers driving drills with foot petals could create mines a thousand meter deep. The technology they used remains a mystery. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, when the Japanese military attempted to incapacitate the Chinese by cutting off their salt supply, the Ziliujing and Gongjing mines became crucial sources for the entire country.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Zigong Series: Brine Wells by Sun Mingjing was auctioned at Sothebys in Beijing in September 2013. The price achieved of CNY 10,620.00 (€ 1,282.09) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as CNY 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Sun Mingjing - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Zigong Series: Salt Factory Workers No. 1, which sold at auction in October 2012 for HKD 32,500.00 (€ 3,235.45).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Zigong Series: Brine Wells von Sun Mingjing kam im September 2013 bei Sothebys in Beijing zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von CNY 10.620,00 (€ 1.282,09) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit CNY 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Sun Mingjing mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Zigong Series: Salt Factory Workers No. 1 beobachtet, die im Oktober 2012 für HKD 32.500,00 (€ 3.235,45) versteigert wurde.
