This artwork by Sir William Nicholson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2018. In the Modern | British & Irish Art auction, the work The Convalescent: Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in Paris sold for GBP 30,000.00 (€ 34,156.66) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sir William Nicholson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sunflowers in March this year with an auction result of GBP 756,000.00 (€ 860,096.03).
