Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Rio de Janeiro and Sugar Loaf Rock from HMS "Galatea" by Oswald Walters Brierly was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 5,018.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Oswald Walters Brierly - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work East Boyd, Twofold Bay, New South Wales, which sold at auction in November 2001 for AUD 25,850.00 (€ 15,014.24).
