This price was achieved in the auction British and European Art at Bonhams in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Mark Birley (1930-2007), as a boy, which sold at auction in November 2018 for GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,659.01).
