Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2016 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings & 19th Century European Art, which included the work Portrait Of Miss Elizabeth Jemima Blake, Three-Quarter Length, Wearing A Red Hunting-Habit And Feathered Hat by Martin Archer Shee. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,250.00 (€ 19,617.80) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Martin Archer Shee - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Full-Length, In A White Dress With A Yellow Silk Sash, An Artist'S Palette And Neo-Classical Bust On A Table To Her Left, An Erard Harp On Her Right, And A Classical Greek Urn To Her Left And An Engraving In Her Left Hand, which sold at auction in June 2001 for GBP 35,250.00 (€ 58,557.26).
