In June 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Important British Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of John Pitt, 2Nd Earl Of Chatham (1756-1835) by Martin Archer Shee. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,000.00 (€ 12,640.34), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Martin Archer Shee have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Full-Length, In A White Dress With A Yellow Silk Sash, An Artist'S Palette And Neo-Classical Bust On A Table To Her Left, An Erard Harp On Her Right, And A Classical Greek Urn To Her Left And An Engraving In Her Left Hand in June 2001 with an auction result of GBP 35,250.00 (€ 58,557.26).

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 10.000,00 (€ 12.640,34) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis.
