Auction result well in line with expectations
The work D'Israeli watching his popularity sink by John Tenniel was sold in the BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL DRAWINGS AND WATERCOLOURS AND ILLUST auction at Christies in London in December 2001. It changed hands for a price of GBP 564.00 (€ 921.50) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Tenniel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work ‘Nuts To Crack’ in March 2018 with an auction result of GBP 27,500.00 (€ 31,310.27).
