Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Henry Raeburn could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in February 2018 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Fine Old Master & 19th Century European Art auction, the work Portrait Of William Murray, Esq., Three-Quarter Length, Seated Wearing A White Stock And A Dark Coat changed hands for USD 21,250.00 (€ 17,402.34) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Raeburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
