A top price for Henry Raeburn - as previously expected

The work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape by Henry Raeburn was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2014. The price achieved of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape is the most expensive artwork by Henry Raeburn that we have observed at auctions so far.
