Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait of Douglas Hamilton, 8th Duke of Hamilton (1756–1799) by Henry Raeburn. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 214,200.00 (€ 251,193.91) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Raeburn - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape, which sold at auction in July 2014 for GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
