Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill (1749-1821), bust-length by Henry Raeburn was sold in the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture Online auction at Christies in New York in January this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 15,120.00 (€ 13,925.22) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Raeburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Portrait of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill (1749-1821), bust-length von Henry Raeburn wurde im Januar diesen Jahres in der Auktion Old Master Paintings and Sculpture Online bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 13.925,22) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Henry Raeburn erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 458.500,00 (€ 578.312,66).
