In January 2024 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II, which included the work Portrait of William Erskine, Lord Kinneder (1768-1822), three-quarter-length, in a black coat and white cravat by Henry Raeburn. The »bidding war« ended at USD 25,200.00 (€ 22,024.12), 68% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Raeburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
