Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of James Hepburn, Half-Length, Wearing A Grey Coat And White Stock by Henry Raeburn was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 21,250.00 (€ 23,913.76) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Raeburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
