Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of James Bruce of Bankton, Mid Calder (1753-1826), bust-length by Henry Raeburn was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 22,500.00 (€ 19,316.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Raeburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
