This artwork by Henry Raeburn achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in October 2019. In the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction, the work Portrait of a lady, possibly Mrs. George Bell, née Isabella Ross (1782-1867), three-quarter-length sold for USD 87,500.00 (€ 78,440.16) - well above the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00. Admittedly, works by Henry Raeburn have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Sir Evan Murray-MacGregor of MacGregor, 2nd Bt., K.C.B., K.C.H., 19th Chief of Clan Gregor, as a boy (1785-1841), full-length, in tartan, in a landscape in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 458,500.00 (€ 578,312.66).
