This artwork by Godfrey Kneller achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2017. In the Old Masters Day Sale auction, the work Portrait of an officer, three-quarter-length, in a breast plate, a cavalry engagement beyond sold for GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,265.01) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Godfrey Kneller; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Elizabeth, Duchess of Dorset, Full-Length, In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, Leaning On A Stone Pedestal With Her Left Hand, Beside A Draped Curtain sold at auction in April 2008 with the realized price of GBP 50,900.00 (€ 64,890.31).
