Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Cup of Tantalus by Edward John Poynter was sold in the 19th Century and British Impressionist Art auction at Bonhams in London in September last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 44,400.00 (€ 50,531.49) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Edward John Poynter have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Orpheus and Eurydice in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 437,500.00 (€ 488,726.49).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit The Cup of Tantalus von Edward John Poynter wurde im September letzten Jahres in der Auktion 19th Century and British Impressionist Art bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 44.400,00 (€ 50.531,49) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Edward John Poynter auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Orpheus and Eurydice im Dezember 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 437.500,00 (€ 488.726,49).
