Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled Portrait VI (The Gravediggers) by Simphiwe Ndzube was auctioned at Phillips in New York in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 18,900.00 (€ 19,319.23). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Simphiwe Ndzube - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Figure With a Whip Leg, which sold at auction in July 2021 for GBP 37,800.00 (€ 44,328.34).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Untitled Portrait VI (The Gravediggers) von Simphiwe Ndzube im September letzten Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 18.900,00 (€ 19.319,23) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Simphiwe Ndzube mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Figure With a Whip Leg beobachtet, die im Juli 2021 für GBP 37.800,00 (€ 44.328,34) versteigert wurde.
