SIMEON SOLOMON (1840-1905) The Veil of the Temple was rent in Twain signed and dated 'SIMEON/ SOLOMON/ 1896' (lower right) and inscribed ' THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT IN TWAIN ' (lower centre, in the margin) pencil on paper 15 1 ⁄ 2 x 11 7 ⁄ 8 in. (39.4 x 30.3 cm.)
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Veil of the Temple was rent in Twain by Simeon Solomon was sold in the The Isabel Goldsmith Collection: Selected Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Art auction at Christies in London in July last year. The price achieved of GBP 2,520.00 (€ 3,009.33) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Simeon Solomon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Habet! In The Coliseum A.D.Xc in July 2018 with an auction result of GBP 370,000.00 (€ 414,851.36).

Die Arbeit The Veil of the Temple was rent in Twain von Simeon Solomon wurde im Juli letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Isabel Goldsmith Collection: Selected Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 2.520,00 (€ 3.009,33) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 2.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Simeon Solomon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Habet!
