Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Melior est mors ovam vite (Death Is Better Than Life) by Simeon Solomon was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,040.00 (€ 4,696.67). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Simeon Solomon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Habet! In The Coliseum A.D.Xc in July 2018 with an auction result of GBP 370,000.00 (€ 414,851.36).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Melior est mors ovam vite (Death Is Better Than Life) von Simeon Solomon im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 5.040,00 (€ 4.696,67) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Simeon Solomon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Habet! In The Coliseum A.D.Xc im Juli 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 370.000,00 (€ 414.851,36).
