Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Calligraphic Couplet by Shang Yanliu was worth HKD 87,500.00 (€ 8,677.24) to a buyer in May 2013. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Modern Paintings at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 18,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Shang Yanliu; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Calligraphy In Running Script sold at auction in April this year with the realized price of HKD 12,000.00 (€ 12,254.35).
