This price was achieved in the auction Two Centuries: American Art at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 80,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sanford Robinson Gifford achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Lake Twilight in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 2,900,000.00 (€ 2,601,130.15).
