Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Start for the Derby; and Winning the Derby, 1851 by Samuel Henry Alken was sold in the IN THE FIELD - An Important Private Collection of Sporting Art auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 33,750.00 (€ 39,888.55) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Henry Alken - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Start for the Derby; and Winning the Derby, which sold at auction in May 2017 for USD 118,750.00 (€ 105,687.08).

Die Arbeit Start for the Derby; and Winning the Derby, 1851 von Samuel Henry Alken wurde im Dezember 2019 in der Auktion IN THE FIELD - An Important Private Collection of Sporting Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 33.750,00 (€ 39.888,55) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
