Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Broadside Salute by Samuel Atkins was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2004. The price achieved of GBP 1,195.00 (€ 1,719.00) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Atkins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Honourable East India Company's ships Devonshire, Woodford and Lord Duncan lying on the Thames off Blackwall (illustrated) ; View of Battersea; and View of Penny's Dockyard at Blackwall (illustrated), which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,779.99).
