Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart, half-length, wearing the Order of the Garter by Rosalba Carriera was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2018. It changed hands for a price of USD 37,500.00 (€ 30,173.80) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rosalba Carriera achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Gustavus Hamilton (1710-1746), 2nd Viscount Boyne, long bust-length, wearing an ermine trimmed coat, tricorn hat and mask in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 421,250.00 (€ 535,202.87).
