A top price for Rosalba Carriera - as previously expected
In July 2008 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings, which included the work Portrait of Gustavus Hamilton (1710-1746), 2nd Viscount Boyne, long bust-length, wearing an ermine trimmed coat, tricorn hat and mask by Rosalba Carriera. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 421,250.00 (€ 535,202.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Gustavus Hamilton (1710-1746), 2nd Viscount Boyne, long bust-length, wearing an ermine trimmed coat, tricorn hat and mask is the most expensive artwork by Rosalba Carriera that we have observed at auctions so far.
